H. Paxson Keates
There is a time when you like to reflect on the many influences in your pursuit of becoming a funeral director of over 50 years. I believe it began with watching my father and taking part in some of the out of town funerals on Saturdays when I was little. There was an adventure in traveling the back roads to some small cemetery and feeling that you were part of the experience. I never met my grandfather because he died before I was born. However, there were old tin types and photographs of him and the horse drawn coaches that piqued my curiosity. I am told that my great grandfather began his career in the funeral industry in 1862.
I am pleased to continue as a funeral director with 2 funeral homes, Jeffries & Keates in Northfield and Keates-Plum in Brigantine. We like to think of ourselves as being an integral part of the community. I have been a member and past president of the Atlantic City Rotary Club for over 50 yrs. I am also a mason and belong to the Trinity Lodge again for over 50 years. I like to play squash and have continued to do so having been a member of the old Haddon Hall Squash Club. I served on the Board of Shore Memorial Hospital for over 25 years and am married to Michelle and have 2 children. Charles Keates, Esq. of Philadelphia, Pa and Dr. Jennifer Baleeiro, a board certified pediatric oncologist, and her husband Carlos, a board certified pulmonologist of Chattanooga, Tn. and 2 grandchildren Carlos Paxson and Sophia.
